Egyptian indie action RPG Knights of Light takes to Kickstarter
Knights of Light, the action role-playing game from Egyptian studio Rumbling Games, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
Knights of Light has been in some form of development for a while, but we found out about it back in April when Rumbling Games dropped early gameplay footage.
Since then, the Egyptian indie studio has made some progress as it continued to prepare for the Kickstarter campaign’s launch.
Knights of Light is a third-person action RPG in the vein of the Witcher series. It takes place in 7th century Iraq/Iran, with a story inspired by the Islamic conquests of the era. Though the main character has not been revealed, Rumbling says we’ll be able to control various historical figures, and learn about the events from the different viewpoints of the warring nations.
Rumbling Games is asking for a very modest $117,089 funding goal, with the promise of around 60 hours of game content in a full single-player campaign. Two story expansions are planned, but Rumbling says work on those won’t start until the main game has shipped.
The studio is taking inspiration from the success Ninja Theory had with making a high-quality game like Hellblade on a modest budget, and hoping to follow in the footsteps of CD Projekt RED when it comes to the quality and quantity of content delivered at launch.
The Kickstarter pitch video, seen below, shows a bit of gameplay and some of the environments in Knights of Light. The bits of action on display feature deliberate animations and a bit of dismemberment, which Rumbling confirmed is in.
This is an all or nothing project, but it still has 53 days to go. At the time of writing, 133 backers donated a little over $5,000.
As it stands, the developer is planning to release Knights of Light on PC first before considering other platforms. Ports to PS4/Xbox One will be dictated by how successful the campaign is.
